First Public Meeting for Christ’s Legacy Academy Well-Attended

April 14th, 2009 @   -

On Monday, April 13, Christ’s Legacy Academy hosted their first of two public meetings. Mike Ball welcomed the crowd and thanked them for attending. He was followed by Dr. Sam Olsen, who offered the opening prayer. Crockett Shamblin  proceeded by welcoming Legacy Academy’s Advisory Board members who were present, as well as mention those who were unable to attend. Their advisory board members include: Reverend Dr. Shane and Kim Arnold, Reverend Oran Creasman, Bill and Raye Danner, Libby Johnson, Richard and Elaine Newman, Reverend Dr. Sam and Judy Olsen, Dan Peterson, Reverend Dr. James D. Price, Dr. Craig Riley, Jerry Williams, and Ric Wilson.

He then introduced Legacy Academy’s board members: Mike and Vanessa Ball, Dr. Shane and Sharon Roberts, Crockett and Lori Shamblin, Dr. Sam and Rachel Olsen. At this point, Dr. Shane Roberts began the power point presentation. The agenda for the presentation included the following topics: who we are,  biblical foundation, classical education, logistics, and the plan to opening day. Dr. Roberts continued by introducing the guest speaker, Mr. Jerry Williams, headmaster of Providence Academy in Johnson City, TN.

Mr. Williams was engaging and knowledgeable as he reiterated the grammar, logic or dialectic, and rhetoric stages of the trivium and how they are practically applied within the context of the classroom setting. He also discussed how God is the very core of any academic endeavor, using Psalm 111:10 to legitimize his argument.

The meeting ended with a question and answer session, after which board members dispersed throughout the room and continued answering questions.

The next public meeting, which will contain the same content as the first, will take place on Friday, April 24, at 7pm. The meeting will take place in the Community Room in the lower level of SouthEast Bank and Trust at 1878 South Congress Parkway, across from Lowe’s Home Improvement Store. Christ’s Legacy Academy enthusiastically invites the public to attend.
