Several years ago country music star Kenny Chesney released a song entitled, “Never Gonna Feel Like this Again.” It is the song of a man who reviews various stages of his life, realizing that each step along the way was a unique step in the journey, one that would not be repeated. He comes to realize that he must grab each moment while he can, because he is never gonna feel like this again.
I like the song, because it reminds me to live in the moment. Live today, today. If you are like me, you have a tendency to try to live tomorrow today. What I mean is I can spend so much time worrying about what might happen tomorrow that I forget to grab each moment I can today.
This is one message I try to communicate to my high school bible class on a daily basis. I tell them to live to make an impact, and do not wait until tomorrow to get started. For example, a high school student will never be as cool to a sixth grader than they are right now. Right now they are heroes; they are the ones to look up to; they are the ones these youngsters want to be.
That is why I am so thrilled to be a part of CLA. Our high school students have heard this message and take it seriously. Just a few days ago, I watched as they played dodge ball during lunch with our sixth grade. Some time later one of the sixth graders asked, “Can we do that again? We don’t need to have P.E. anymore. Just let us play with the big kids for 10 minutes, and we will be fine.” For anyone who knows a sixth grader, you know how serious they are about P.E. For a kid to be willing to give it up demonstrates how big of an impact these teenagers made.
Seeing that inspired me. I want to live today, today. I want to make an impact today. I want to follow the example of our high school. Wherever you are, remember someone is watching. You will never be this cool to them again. So don’t waste it.
