No COVID

I don’t know about you, but I am sick of all things COVID, and from time to time, I need to be reminded about what is really true in this moment.  In the end, Jesus wins, and because he wins, we win.

So . . .

Yes, COVID, you have upset the lives of millions.

Yes, COVID, you can change plans.

Yes, COVID, you have inspired fear.

Yes, COVID, you can damage economies and take jobs.

Yes, COVID, you killed one of my best friends and the friends of many others, introducing hearty doses of grief on top of sorrow.

But, COVID, I am a child of the One True King, purchased by the blood of Christ, destined for good works, and possessed by an unshakable hope both in this life and in the life to come.

So, no COVID.  While you can upset lives, you cannot change destinies.

No, COVID.  While you can make us change plans, you cannot change who we are.  We live by the simple but strong motto “if the Lord wills,” and you will not stop us from moving forward.

No, COVID.  While you can make us afraid, you cannot paralyze us with fear.  As a matter of fact, you will be a tool in the hand of Christ to strengthen our faith, making our trust deeper and our joy wider.

No COVID.  While you can take our money, you cannot lessen our meaning or take our true dignity, because it is founded in a reality that is deeper than purchasing power.

No, COVID, while you can kill the body; you cannot kill the soul.  My friend is absent his body but present with his Lord.  He is more alive today than he ever was before, and one day I will be too.   So, while you may bring sorrow, it will be a sorrow infused with joy.

With those truths deeply rooted in our hearts we will live.  We will live one day at a time, with deep joy and unshakable peace.  We will live with pain, but that pain will be enveloped in hope. We will live looking forward to the day when COVID a distant memory.   We will live, because we live before the face of our God, safe and secure from all alarms.
